CPD Requirements for Dyslexia Assessors

CPD LOG - APC

Requirements - New Assessors

CPD Dyslexia Assessors requirements

New assessors must complete five hours of core SASC-authorised CPD each year in their first three years, plus an additional five supplementary hours each year.

This means they must complete at least 10 hours of CPD each year until their first renewal. This cannot all be done in one year; it must be spread across the three years as required by SASC.

Requirements - Renewals

For subsequent renewals, the minimum CPD is five hours of core SASC-authorised CPD at any point in the three years plus 15 hours of supplementary CPD.

The above is a requirement for APC renewal and does not take into consideration any additional CPD required for assessors holding AMBDA.

Providers of core SASC-authorised CPD are listed on the SASC website, and you will receive a SASC code prefixed with SASC followed by numbers. This training will count as codes C1 and C2.

See the link below for full details of SASC APC requirements: https://www.sasc.org.uk/continuing-professional- development

For those also holding AMBDA, see the link below for additional CPD requirements linked to specialist teaching: https://www.bdadyslexia.org.uk/services/accreditation/c continual-professional-development

Each professional body will have its own method of recording CPD. The information below is to help you keep brief records as and when you complete CPD, which can then be transferred and improved when completing your CPD log for your APC renewal.

It is crucial to be aware of which courses are SASC- authorised and keep a note of their authorisation code.

SASC states that CPD covered in the period should address all 5 areas. The codes to use in your CPD log are as follows:

• Core 1 (C1) principles of psychometrics, statistics, assessment and underlying theory

• Core 2 (C2) SpLD testing methods, interpretation and test materials

• Supplementary 1 (S1) changes in regulations and legislation relating to SpLDs

• Supplementary 2 (S2) developments in SpLD research

• Supplementary 3 (S3) approaches to teaching and support for SpLD
